The Fire

On the morning of Sunday, December 6, 1914, the Conservatory of Music suffered a fire and nearly all of the interior was destroyed, leaving only parts of the exterior in good enough condition to keep. Morningside College rebuilt the inside as well as they could and updated the building, with the major changes from the old building in the absence of the tower and the changed roof. No more major construction projects were completed until the reconstruction of the Hall in 1987, but it was very obvious that the Conservatory was radically different than it had been before.
