The First Years

A photograph showing off the front of the Conservatory of Music before the fire.

For the first few years of its history, Charles City Hall--then known as Old Main--was used for virtually all activity on campus. This building housed everything from sleeping quarters to the mess hall to the classrooms.

Another building was completed on the campus in 1900 and Charles City Hall became the Conservatory of Music, and it would stay this 1966, when it became the home of several academic departments and the location of their coinciding classrooms. Today, it is used for the history, philosophy, relgious studies, and criminal justice classrooms.
